One of my goals this year was to be more active on social media. I must be honest; I struggled with this because I’ve had posts ready to go numerous times and deleted them because I thought they were corny.

I know some would say I’m worrying too much about other people and I agree that that’s a possibility. But, at the end of the day, I know it’s something I should be doing if I want to grow my personal brand and have more reach.

What’s The Goal?

Oh, I probably should have started with what my goal is with social media.

Well, since my wife and I run a virtual support firm, we both felt it would be a good idea to grow personal brands to help drive traffic to our company.

Since our business focuses on building systems and processes, along with creative services like website and graphic design, we figured it would make our company more appealing if we gave people more insight into who we are.

We have the tendency to come off as reserved or too serious the majority of the time… especially online. Plus, content about systems and processes or reasons why you should hire a virtual assistant can be a little dry. But we figured that if people got a glimpse of what we’re like outside of work, they’d be surprised, and it would make us and our business more intriguing.

What To Post

So now comes the hard part… what to post? Well, since I’m really into health and fitness and I work out every morning, I figured it’d be a good idea to post about my workouts.

I started putting clips of my workout results on my Instagram story, accompanied by a few other things, and it began to get some traction. The only issue for me is that it felt like I was being a bit showy.

I told my wife it felt corny, and I considered changing things up. Mostly just not posting about exercise. But something interesting happened over the next few days. I received two messages and a phone call from people telling me how much they enjoyed watching my stories.

In fact, one of them told me that my stories were the reason they decided to start exercising.

That made my day and gave me confirmation that I was doing the right thing. So today I continue to post about my workouts hoping that I’m inspiring others. My goal to get more reach for my business has now turned into something that I’m doing to help motivate others.
