People often ask my wife and I how we can work together. My… our answer is “easily”. For some reason, I think people have created this image that we’re sitting in a small office together all day, dreading our job.

That couldn’t be further from the truth. The majority of the time, we are not in the same area and we both love what we do.

It would probably be different if we worked for someone else, but since we’re the owners, it makes things easier… in my opinion.

To help people understand what we’re dealing with, I tell people to think about their children. Both parents are vested in their children and want the best for them. They are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure their children have everything they need. It doesn’t matter how hard the job is, they are eager to do whatever they have to do for their children to be successful.

Well, we look at our business like that. We created something that affords us the life we have, and we both want to see it flourish. Just like with children, we may not always agree, but we compromise for the betterment of the business.

I don’t understand why so many people find what we do unbelievable. Before Wal-Mart and Target flooded cities across the nation, mom-and-pop shops were a normal thing. Years ago, couples running a business together was normal.

Even today, if you pay close attention, you’ll find numerous restaurants and other types of businesses run by couples. It’s not a new concept, nor is it something weird.

It makes sense for those that want to do it. I encourage any couple thinking about working together to go for it. Who better to work with, spend the majority of your time with, and make a living with than the person you said “I Do” to?
