I used to love watching Indiana Jones movies… he was the coolest. Indy was always going on amazing adventures and searching for some type of treasure or artifact in the most dangerous parts of the world.

When I was 11 years old, I figured I’d play in the NFL and the MLB, and when I retired, I’d become an archaeologist and college professor, just like Indy. Oh yeah, I had enormous dreams.

As I got older, I realized pro sports wasn’t happening, I no longer wanted to run through caves in India, and responsibilities began to mount. I found myself allowing life to happen to me. In other words, I had no adventure.

For years I would go to work, come home and watch a little television, eat, go to bed and do the same thing the next day. Life seemed bleak. I was gaining unwanted weight, questioning my career, and always feeling tired.

Thank goodness I’m not in that place anymore.

Today, I understand that to get the most out of life, we must treat it like a never-ending adventure… kinda like Indiana Jones.

Flip The Switch

The moment things started turning around for me was when my son started playing sports. No longer were we (my family and I) sitting around doing nothing after work. We had practice and games to attend, and we started hanging out with some of the other families.

The next year, I took a job as a firefighter. That was one of the biggest eye-opening experiences of my life. Not only did I have an adventurous job, but I had some fascinating co-workers.

Over the course of my firefighting career, I worked with people that owned thriving businesses, some of them were scuba divers, bodybuilders, bow hunters, you name it. It was cool hearing them talk about their adventures. Stories about traveling out of the country, hiking in Colorado, deep sea diving in the Atlantic, I could go on forever.

Some of the most interesting people were the bodybuilders. I watched people go from eating regular diets, to tracking every morsel they consumed for three months; totally transforming their bodies.

The first time I worked with someone that was training for a bodybuilding competition, I couldn’t understand why anyone would be willing to put themselves through that much torture.

Adventure

It didn’t take long for me to realize it was all for the adventure. I was around guys that were always challenging themselves. Whether it was the adventure of becoming a Fire Chief or starting a rock band, their adventures fascinating… to me.

Now I look at everything as an adventure. My wife and I own a business together and everyday is an adventure. It’s fun creating something with the idea of it lasting longer than us.

We are always exploring ideas and searching for ways to improve. Throughout the process, I’ve discovered that I enjoy tweaking things; including myself, to see how I can make them more efficient.

I have a particular interest in Time Management and Productivity.

I once heard someone say that we are all given the same 24 hours, but some people have figured out how to move through time and space at a different rate. They can get much more done than most people through their mastery of time management and productivity.

Today, I’m on an adventure to maximize my efficiency and productivity and I want to inspire others to do the same thing. Since I’ve discovered something that gets me excited, it’s been fun coming up with ways to deliver my message.

Just like in the movies, this is a never-ending journey. Once a task, event, or workshop is complete, it’s on to the next thing.

If you’ve made it to this point in the article and you’ve lost your sense of adventure, I challenge you to reach out to me. I’ve recently started a coaching business where I help others discover their sense of adventure and start living the life they deserve.
