When things don’t go according to plan, it’s easy to get anxious and even desperate. If we are not careful, this rush of excitement can cause us to make rash decisions. However, if we channel this new energy and excitement in the right direction, we can propel ourselves to new heights.
It’s hard, but we should always resist acting too swiftly. When our senses are heightened and our minds are sharpened… if we take our time, we’ll be more prone to make better decisions, produce better work, respond better, etc.
In the YouTube Short Video related to this subject, I talked about running late while driving. I know we’ve all been there. When we’re running late for something, it seems like we hit every single red light possible. Interestingly, when we are not pressed for time, we can often take that same route and never hit a red light.
I used to wonder what that was all about. Today, I feel it is a sign for me to slow down. Not just in traffic, but perhaps in some areas of my life.
We all know that if we drive recklessly, by allowing our anxiety to turn into desperation, we are more willing to take risks while driving. This type of mental confusion can have bad… even deadly consequences.
Well, the same concept applies to other areas of our lives. Think about the time you disagreed with someone (spouse, friend, boss, co-worker, etc.). The first reaction that comes to your mind probably isn’t the most appropriate one. It can even have a long-lasting negative impact on the future of your relationship with that person.
However, if we take time to analyze what’s going on, and weigh all the options, we are more likely to respond or react in a manner we are proud of.
Turn It into A Positive
Stress, anxiety, desperation, and other words in this category are often associated solely with negativity, but these feelings can be used for good.
When we have these feelings, our senses are heightened, and we start thinking deeper… exploring things we wouldn’t have otherwise.
Think about a time you found out at the last minute you had to do something important, like a presentation. Many people claim that some of their best work was produced under tough conditions. This takes me back to what I mentioned earlier. They were able to tap into something deeper because of added stress and anxiety. A sense of desperation came over them to do something… quickly.
Conclusion
So next time you are faced with a tough situation, don’t react so quickly. If possible, give it some time and allow your creative juices to start flowing. You might be surprised by the results.
