Airports… whether you love or hate them, it’s amazing how many moving parts they have. It will forever amaze me how much knowledge, skill, time, etc., it took to create today’s airline system.
Just for a moment, allow your mind to try and process what it would take to develop an airport. Next, think about the system required to connect all the airports across the world. How amazing is that?
That’s on a grand scale, but on a smaller scale, consider the complexities of a single airline managing an entire fleet of airplanes. Each plane (and other equipment) must be serviced and cleaned and you need staff to make it all work. It’s all so remarkable.
Oh, I forgot to mention, what about the chaos that goes on outside of the airport? Parking alone is enough to make your head spin, but we can’t forget about the drop-off and pick-up lanes. Have you ever seen such madness?
Since I live in Atlanta, I’m at Hartsfield-Jackson often, and it’s said to be the busiest airport in the world. Say what you want about busy airports and how much of a headache they are, I like to get there early (like they recommend) so I can check out their shops and restaurants.
The shopping is top tier and when it comes to food, there’s something for everyone. If you want something healthy, they have it. If you want something hearty, they have. Maybe you want something quick like a pastry and they have that too.
Okay, enough about food and back to the wonder that is our airline system.
Dream
How big does one or even a group of people need to dream to come up with a concept so grand? I understand that there are many moving parts but, over time a particular group of people had to first envision it. Many high-level thinkers, innovators, business leaders, etc. got together (and continue to get together) to come up with these amazing airports that we have all over the world.
The point of this article was less about airports and more about dreaming big. To come up with something like Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, it took a group of big dreamers to come together. Numerous thoughts and ideas were bouncing around for a while before it became a physical thing.
Something as grand as an airport probably sounded ridiculous to most people before they could see it. It takes vision and groups of people with vision to make something on the scale of an airport to happen. So, I have two questions for you. How big are your dreams and how big are the dreams of the people you spend most of your time with?
